The IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL)

Service Management is a business-driven, holistic approach to the management of IT based on process frameworks and international standards such as ITIL® (The IT Infrastructure Library) and ISO/IEC 20000.

Solisma is a leading provider of accredited ITIL® training courses that form part of the new Version 3 qualifications scheme as depicted in the diagram below.

The new qualifications scheme is a points-based system that provides a means by which students can complete a number of lifecycle and capability modules before progressing onto the ITIL Expert level. Please refer to the ITIL Official Website for more information on this points-based structure.

ITIL Service Manager/Expert Qualification: If you have existing ITIL Version 2 qualifications, then it is possible to complete a Manager Bridge course in order to qualify as an ITIL Version 3 Expert. In fact, the ITIL Version 2 Service Manager Manager plus the Manager Bridge provide the fastest and easiest means to becoming and ITIL Expert. The ITIL Service Manager/Expert level qualification is aimed at Consultants and Managers operating in a broader role for the implementation and management across all IT Service Management processes.

ITIL Intermediate Qualifications: The ITIL Intermediate Capability courses are specifically targeted at process owners/managers and those working directly within one or more Service Management process areas. Staff roles particularly targeted at the various capability course options are as follows:

  • Operational Support & Analysis (OSA): Incident Managers, Problem Managers
  • Release, Control & Validation (RCV): Change Managers/Analysis, Testing Managers
  • Planning, Protection & Optimization (PPO): Service designers/planners/architects
  • Service Offerings & Agreements (SOA): Service/Account Managers, Supplier Managers
Each capability course is five days in duration and concludes with a 90 minute complex-graded multiple-choice exam.

ITIL Foundation Qualification: The 3 day Foundation course provides participants with an overview of the IT Infrastructure Library. It is intended for general staff working in IT Service Management and as a prerequisite for progressing onto higher qualification levels. At the end of the course, students can sit a 1 hour, 40 question multiple choice exam.

ITIL Awareness/Overview: An ITIL awareness course provides an ideal means of educating a broader range of staff that need to understand the principles of IT Service Management, but do not require formal certification. Options for delivery can include slides-based delivery, highly effective experiential learning with our ITSM Simulation Game, or a combination of the two. This method of training provides a solid basis for a service cultural change programme and avoids the pressure of having to sit a formal examination.

More details relating to each ITIL course option are provided on the pages below.
