How does SIM Licensing work?

Each assessment is licensed on an individual pay-per-use basis, meaning that you only need to purchase an assessment when a new one is required. The SIM software itself is maintained as a free downloaded directly from our website, or by using the automatic update check feature if you have a direct connection to the internet from your computer.

 

How often should I conduct an assessment?

That all depends. Organizations just starting out may need to conduct a self-assessment every 6-12 months depending on the amount of change being implemented and whether certification to a standard such as ISO/IEC 20000 is required. Once things become more stable however, a self-assessment every 18-24 months is more common.

 

Do I need to use a consultant?

Not necessarily. When used in conjunction with our Masterclass training courses, SIM provides you with the tools and skills to help you manage this yourself. Many organizations however, still require the expertise of external consultants to conduct independent assessments on a regular basis (also known as a second-party audit) or to assist with the establishment and/or improvement of the service management system and processes. For this purpose, we offer a specialized SIMassist service for those that require the help of our consulting experts.

 

How do I obtain an Assessment License?

A software license to conduct an assessment can be purchased by contacting our office using the form provided below or through one of our assessment partners listed in the Partner Network directory. Once your order is complete, the SIM assessment file will be forwarded to the e-mail address provided.

A SIM Assessment License is also available for purchase at a discounted rate when you enrol in one of our Masterclass training courses. Aimed at consultants and IT managers, these courses not only teach you how to conduct an assessment, but also provides you with the tools you need to achieve compliance to standards such as ISO/IEC 20000.

 

What is included in the License Fee?

Each SIM assessment includes the following features:

Assessment: a comprehensive standards-based questionnaire
Evidence: the ability to track the documentation and records required to support an audit
Roles: assign activities and responsibilities to individuals or teams
Tasks: automatically generated tasks that tell you what you need to do next
Reports: baseline and benchmark measures of process compliance and maturity

Once the assessment has been processed, you are free to continue using SIM to track and manage your improvement activities. Alternatively, those activities can be exported for use in another project management tool of choice.
